SayPro partnership with United States Peace Corps Strengthening the Role of Public Libraries in Promoting Digital Inclusion

SayPro and the United States Peace Corps are working to transform public libraries into powerful hubs for digital inclusion in underserved communities. This initiative equips libraries with internet access, updated computers, and training programs focused on digital literacy. SayPro believes libraries are critical access points for education, employment, and communication in areas lacking home connectivity. Peace Corps volunteers assist in building curricula, training library staff, and organizing outreach to inform the public. Libraries become not just book centers, but digital empowerment spaces where residents can access government services, online learning, and job applications. Together, SayPro and Peace Corps are creating a network of community learning centers focused on bridging the digital divide.

Each participating library hosts weekly workshops on basic computer skills, internet safety, email use, and accessing online resources. SayPro emphasizes inclusive access, ensuring that youth, seniors, and people with disabilities receive tailored support. Volunteers from Peace Corps contribute global teaching strategies and support community librarians with modern instructional tools. Libraries also offer access to e-books, digital storytime for children, and online resume-building programs. This strengthens local digital infrastructure while building community trust. SayPro ensures sustainability by training local coordinators to manage ongoing operations, preventing the loss of momentum after implementation.

The project also includes outreach efforts to bring in individuals who may feel excluded from digital spaces, such as older adults or rural residents. Mobile library vans with internet access travel to nearby villages to offer pop-up digital workshops. Peace Corps volunteers partner with SayPro to design flyers, run school visits, and organize digital inclusion days in public squares. These events provide free training and highlight the importance of digital literacy in modern life. By combining infrastructure, education, and outreach, SayPro ensures that digital inclusion isn’t limited to a select few but extends to every corner of the community.

The long-term vision is to transform every public library into a local innovation and empowerment hub. SayPro and Peace Corps see these spaces as essential for democracy, education, and economic development. They are building more than just access points—they are fostering community resilience, knowledge sharing, and opportunities for growth. This initiative reflects the shared belief that everyone, regardless of age, income, or background, deserves a chance to participate fully in the digital world.
